Southwell Guitars
Courses at Southwell Guitars
Having run a number of successful teaching weeks in my workshop with such an enthusiastic response over the last few years I have now decided to make this a regular part of my work. In 2008 I am planning to run two one week courses, the first in early June the other in early October.
I will take three pupils per course; each student will have his or her own workbench for the week. The course is aimed at people who already have some experience and are looking to improve their skills or learn new techniques. The idea is that you bring along something you are working on and through this instrument and my own demonstrations I can help you develop your craft and give you the confidence to express your ideas. As I only have three pupils everyone gets lots of individual attention in what is an informal, friendly yet information packed intensive week of learning. As it is based in my own workshop you also get a great insight into how I work.
Unlike a lot of courses this is not aimed at making a guitar and bashing it out in a limited amount of time, it is more a series of master classes in various techniques which are led by what you want to learn. In the past topics have included; rosette making, bending sides, making V joints, tuning tops, varnish making.
My workshop is in the centre of Nottingham and there are a variety of places to stay nearby, I will be happy to help you book something suitable. We always have a meal together the first night to help get to know each other and usually have a night out at the end of the week, if you have any energy left! It’s always great fun.
The course fee is £ 400. If you would like more information or would like to book a place please contact me.
